Built-In Accessibility Features to Support Translation and Multilingual Learners (ELL)
Translation and language support tools help students access learning when English is not their primary language. Built-in accessibility features can translate text, read content aloud in different languages, provide subtitles, and support vocabulary development. These tools help multilingual learners participate more fully in classroom activities while continuing to build English proficiency.
Live Translation: Live translation tools convert spoken language into another language in real time. These features allow students to follow classroom discussions, presentations, or videos by displaying translated captions on the screen. Live translation can help multilingual learners stay engaged in lessons and better understand spoken information.
Text Translation: Text translation tools allow students to translate written texts, sentences, or entire web pages into another language. By highlighting text and selecting translate, students can quickly view content in their preferred language. This supports comprehension during reading assignments, instructions, or research activities.
Speech-to-Text/Voice Typing in Multiple Languages: Speech-to-Text tools allow students to speak in their preferred language and have their words converted into text. This can help multilingual learners participate in writing activities or communicate ideas without being limited by typing or spelling in English.
Dictionary and Word Translation Tools: Built-in dictionaries and word translation tools allow students to define and translate unfamiliar words. These tools help students build vocabulary and understand new terms without interrupting the learning process.
Immersive Reader Translation: Immersive Reader and similar reading environments include built-in translation features that can translate words, sentences, or entire passages. Students can read the translated text while also listening to it being spoken aloud.
