
Telling Time

Overview
Students will review how to tell time by watching videos. After watching the videos, students can practice telling time using Giraffe Dash, an engaging game designed to help them learn how to tell time.
Learning Objectives
Students will:
- Refresh their knowledge about telling time.
- Practice using terminology such as half hour, half past, along with telling time to the nearest quarter.
- Be able to practice the skill of telling time and get instant feedback while playing a game.
Vocabulary
Vocabulary Words:
1. Minute hand: The minute hand is the long pointer that marks the minutes.
2. Hour hand: The hour hand is the short pointer that indicates the hour.
3. A.M.: A.M is short for ante meridiem. This is Latin, referring to the time between midnight and noon.
4 P.M.: P.M. is short for post meridiem. This refers to the time after “noon” (12:00 pm).
Pre-planning
To prepare for this lesson:
- Preview the videos below.
- Remind students of the school's policy regarding the sharing of personal information.
- Then provide the links to students. These can be set up in a safe environment like Google Classroom or SeeSaw.

Directions for this activity:
- Watch one or both of the videos about time.
- Provide students with the link or address to the Arcademics Giraffe Dash game.
- Remind students not to use full names while on Arcademics.
