First Grade

Telling Time

Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen

Overview

Students will review how to tell time by watching videos. After watching the videos, students can practice telling time using Giraffe Dash, an engaging game designed to help them learn how to tell time.

Students will:

  • Refresh their knowledge about telling time.
  • Practice using terminology such as half hour, half past, along with telling time to the nearest quarter.
  • Be able to practice the skill of telling time and get instant feedback while playing a game.

Vocabulary Words:

1. Minute hand: The minute hand is the long pointer that marks the minutes.

2. Hour hand: The hour hand is the short pointer that indicates the hour.

3. A.M.:  A.M is short for ante meridiem. This is Latin, referring to the time between midnight and noon.

P.M.: P.M. is short for post meridiem. This refers to the time after “noon” (12:00 pm).
