Multiplication Fun
Overview
By the end of second grade, second graders should know their multiplication facts. Students need to practice and practice until they have them memorized. There are multiple ways to help them learn their facts. Learn about several digital and hands-on ways to teach them their times tables.
Learning Objectives
Students will:
- Be able to learn their times tables.
- Understand the concepts of multiplication.

Vocabulary Words:
- Multiplication: Multiplication is defined as to calculate the result of repeated additions of two numbers.
Pre-planning
To prepare for this lesson:
- Students will be introduced to multiplication and that it is is the repeated addition of two numbers.
- Read about the 30 Fun, Hands-On Ways to Teach Multiplication.
- Use the video Times Tables Songs with the students.
- FactMonster has flashcards from addition to division. There seven different levels to choose from. The students have 2 minutes to go through each level.

Steps
Directions for this activity:
- The teacher will introduce multiplication to the students.
- The teacher will choose one or more of the 30 fun hands-on activities for the students to do in class.
- Use the video Times Tables Songs with the students.
- The teacher will share the FactMonster flashcard website with the students in the computer lab or on classroom devices.
- The students will practice their times tables throughout the year as they learn them.
Assessment Options
Different options for assessing the students:
- Observations
- Check for understanding
- Have the students record their accuracy score while playing FactMonster. (How many facts completed and how many correct)
