Science Kids-Plants

Learning Objectives
Students will:
-
Understand how plants grow and what they need to survive.
Vocabulary
Vocabulary Words:
-
Leaves: The leaves collect energy from the sun and make food for the plant. This is called photosynthesis.
-
Stem: The stem supports the plant above ground, and carries the water and minerals to the leaves.
-
Roots: The roots absorb water and minerals from the soil and help anchor the plant in the ground.
Pre-planning
To prepare for this lesson:
Here is a lesson plan on how to grow plants.
This website provides you with several plant images you can print off or show the students.
Choose a video on plants from the Science Kids' website to show the students.
Have a poster for every team of students (about four-six). They will work in teams or pairs to make a poster about plant facts using graphics.
Accommodations
See the Accommodations Page and Charts on the 21things4students website in the Teacher Resources.

-
Students will play the science plant game - a very interactive game where students will add water and sunlight to the plant to see if they can get it to grow.
-
Print out the science quiz or have students go to the website and discuss the questions in teams. The answers are below on the same page.
-
This website has some really cool science fair plant project ideas that student teams can choose from.
