Communicate With Bloomz

Students will:

• Be able to communicate with their teacher through messages, emails, discussions, and activities.
• Be able to communicate with teachers regarding their children and monitor their behavior.

Vocabulary Words:

1. Instant Messaging: Instant Messaging is a means or system for transmitting electronic messages instantly.

2. Student Portfolio: A student Portfolio is a collection of student work that can demonstrate learning and be used as an effective assessment tool.

3. Behavior Management: Behavior Management is a method of behavioral modification that focuses on maintaining order and focuses on shaping and maintaining positive behaviors while discouraging negative behaviors.

To prepare for this lesson:

• Watch this introduction tutorial for an overview of Bloomz.

• Go to the website Bloomz to sign up. Enter your information to sign in and click on Create Class and enter your information into the table.

• You can now share your class code with parents.

• You can message your students and parents. You can also add files and pictures to your messages.

• Invite all Parents by entering emails or phone numbers or share access codes to join your classroom group on Bloomz.

• All your class communications, including calendar events and reminders, show up here, in one view (By the way, see all the tools Bloomz can replace for you).

• Everything posted here is private, between you and your class parents.

• Post quick updates on what the kids are learning in class or share a photo to help parents stay in the know.

• Make an announcement to remind parents about an upcoming test or field trip.

• Visit our support site to learn more about all the cool features in the app, get help on how the tools work, and find helpful resources for introducing Bloomz to class parents.

Directions for this activity:

1. Have students log into Google Classroom and click on the link for this website. They will enter the class code. They will now receive messages from you to their email. If you teach older kids and they have cell phones, they can download the app on their phone.

2. Send out an email or reminder for parents to sign up for Bloomz also. This will be great to send pictures or even chat individually with parents. Students can also upload their work into their student portfolios

3. Students can also respond individually to the teacher with questions they may not feel comfortable asking in front of the class. This is great for shy students.

Different options for assessing the students:

• Observations
• Check for understanding
• This provides feedback to parents on how well students are doing in class.  Teachers, parents, and students can message or email each other.
