October is Cybersecurity Month - Are you prepared?
As educators, we often find ourselves consumed by the day-to-day demands of the classroom - managing student behavior, designing engaging lessons, and navigating a myriad of other responsibilities. In the midst of this, it can be easy to overlook the growing importance of cybersecurity education.
However, we have the power and responsibility to prioritize this critical issue facing today’s educators and students.
October is Cybersecurity Month and the perfect time to take steps to protect yourself and create a broader awareness within your school community. Consider some of the following activities using resources and tools created by REMC:
- Post about Cybersecurity safety in your social media accounts. You can find ready-to-use posts from our template with a variety of social media posts for you to edit and send..
- Provide Cybersecurity Awareness training using free resources. REMC Association has a Facilitator's Guide for District Led Cybersecurity Activities which provides leadership ideas to implement into your professional learning, PLCs or staff meetings.
- Encourage your staff to learn about various Cyber Attacks and how to protect themselves and school systems. One way is by attending one or more of REMC's Preventing Cybersecurity Attacks webinars held in December. These are FREE and participants can earn FREE SCECHs.
- If you are brand new to Cybersecurity, REMC has a Cybersecurity Start Guide with some key websites and resources for Michigan educators.
Prevention is the key to protection! Take advantage of these resources and guides designed for Michigan educators.
