Resume Writing Tips for Teens

Many new resume templates have a spot to insert a picture in your resume, but it is not recommended in the United States. Inserting a picture on job application materials breaks fair employment laws in some states.

You are ready to write your resume now. You will create it as if you were applying for your dream job. Remember, at this point, you will only share your resume with your teacher in your Career Prep Portfolio. Do not share any personal information on other online websites or platforms.

Step 1. Choose a resume template from one of the websites below. Update the information to match the job you are applying for.

Step 2. Writing your resume. Make sure to include the following sections in your resume:

  • Contact Information
  • Professional Summary
  • Experience
  • Education
  • Skills

Step 3. Check with your teacher about reviewing your resume before completing the writing process.
