5. Digital Footprint

When using digital resources, it is critical that everyone acts and models digital citizenship in ways that are responsible, safe, legal, and ethical and don't harm others.

This Quest challenges you to consider some of potential impacts with generated Artificial Intelligence (AI) your digital footprint. Consider the following points:

  1. AI systems can collect, analyze, and use the information from your footprint that comes from your social media posts, likes, comments, and searches you conduct online.
  2. AI algorithms can create deepfake images or videos using your photos.
  3. Fake social media posts can be generated that appear to be from you.
  4. An application to a job, college or university may not accepted based on some of the information generated from your digital footprint.

Consider and Discuss: 

Step 1. Play the video, "Is this Keanu account actually a deep fake? Is this legitimate?" and think about the two questions?

Step 2. Check with your teacher about discussing as a class, small group, or with a partner:

  • How might your current online activities affect how others view you.
  • How the use of AI could impact your future employment or schooling.

Step 3. Share your three or more ideas and actions you can take to protect your digital footprint.

  • Bias and discrimination
  • Data privacy and security issues because the data is not always accurate or current
  • Misinformation and manipulation
