Q5 Cyberbullying: Defense Protocols

6. Cyber Smart

Strategic Defense

When a digital conflict starts, your brain's natural reaction is often to fight back or freeze up. In gaming terms, responding with anger is usually what a cyberbully wants because it gives them attention and escalates the battle. To stay safe, Agents and players need a pre-planned defense strategy that they can execute under pressure without thinking.

By the end of this activity, Agents will be able to:

  • Recall the four steps of the S.B.R.T. Protocol (Stop, Record, Block, Tell) in the correct order.
  • Apply the 4 Ds (Direct, Distract, Delegate, Delay) to specific bullying scenarios.
  • Distinguish between "Snitching" (causing drama) and "Reporting" (stopping danger).

The Team Intro. Training

As a whole team, run the System Defense Console to learn better approaches to dealing with cyberbullying.

  • A team leader may be chosen to lead the team through the training.
  • You will run all three training simulations:
    • Self-Defense: Mastering the sequence to block an attack.
    • Intervention: Choosing the right tactic to save a teammate.
    • Judgment: Learning the difference between snitching and reporting.

Your Individual Training

Step 1. Your mission is to navigate Escape the Trap' simulation (linked below) designed to test your digital defense skills. In this maze, emotional reactions are traps. Fighting back only feeds the cyberbully trolls and creates chaos. To survive, you must master the S.B.R.T. Protocol (Stop, Block, Record, Tell) and use the 4 Ds to navigate the online chats safely. Avoid the red cyberbully trolls, collect the Blue Shields to unlock the gates, and make your way to the Green Flag to secure the server. Good luck!

  • Select the Escape the Trap' Simulation to begin.
  • You may have to restart level 1 a couple of times to get the hang of it!
  • You will be completing 8 levels.

Step 2. Copy or download the image of your Certificate of Completion as shown below.

Step 3. Insert the certificate image into your Player Conduct and Safety Portfolio on the Quest 5: Defense Protocols slide.

  • Post a response to the following reflection questions in your portfolio:
    • You see a friend being roasted in a group chat, but you are scared to say something publicly. Which of the 4 Ds would you use?
