Educator Resources:

TECH SKILLS Question Bank

The technology skill questions represent some of the International standards (ISTE) and Michigan competencies (MITECS) that are expected for students across different grade level ranges K-12, and that have learning resources provided for in the 21 Things 4 Students and MiTechKids website resources. The items were selected by a team of educators and educational technology consultants working on the 21 Things 4 Students and MiTechKids projects.

The database (spreadsheet) of Tech Skills questions is separated into different sheets (tabs) by grade level. It provides a cross-reference to:

  • the resources we provide as Task cards for K-2 and 3-5 levels, and Quests for 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
  • the technology standard/competency associated with the skill area

Teachers can use these items and create their own Tech Skill survey using Google Forms, Survey Monkey, or an assessment tool in their Learning Management System. The items can also be added to the online assessment tool the district uses e.g., Illuminate Ed or GoFormative

The teacher can design the survey to help students identify technology skill areas they feel they know about and can do, while also identifying areas that can become learning goals.

How the students answer the questions can provide the teacher an opportunity to identify technology skill areas that could be helpful to integrate into the curriculum.
