Q4 STEAM Roller Coaster: Completing this Quest
Completing this Quest
In this Quest, you used an online Roller Coaster activity using a 5-step Engineering Process. You have completed this Quest when you have:
- Learned how energy transfer (potential and kinetic) will impact your design for a roller coaster that has enough kinetic energy to complete a full run.
- Learned how energy loss dissipates enough energy (through friction) to stop safely at the end of the designated track.
- Applied the 5-step engineering design process to create a working model.

If you use the Student Portfolio, fill in the slide corresponding to the Quest you just completed. You should already have a copy or download of this portfolio created and saved in your Google Drive or Microsoft files.
Check off this Quest on the 21t4s roadmap if it is used in class.
I am ready to go on to the Visual Learning Graduation Page.
Competencies & Standards
MITECS Michigan Integrated Technology Competencies for Students, and
3. Knowledge Constructor
c. Students curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions.
4. Innovative Designer
a. Students know and use a deliberate design process for generating ideas, testing theories, creating innovative artifacts or solving authentic problems.
b. Students select and use digital tools to plan and manage a design process that considers design constraints and calculated risks.
c. Students develop, test and refine prototypes as part of a cyclical design process.
d. Students exhibit a tolerance for ambiguity, perseverance and the capacity to work with open-ended problems.
5. Computational Thinker
b. Students collect data or identify relevant data sets, use digital tools to analyze them and represent data in various ways to facilitate problem-solving and decision-making.
