Q1 Media Crew: Introduction

19. Smart Cart

Introduction

Welcome to the crew! The administration just green-lit our brand new student run media channel. Whether we are breaking down Friday night's game, debating cafeteria food, or interviewing teachers, we need to make sure our production value is top-notch.

The Boosters have generously provided us with a $1000 startup grant to buy professional grade recording equipment. However, there is a catch: the digital marketplace is a minefield packed with counterfeit premium gear, fake five-star review bots, and sketchy third party sellers. If we get scammed, the club loses its entire budget.

In this Quest, you will research gear, compare critical technical specs, and perform a strict security audit to make sure we make a safe, smart, and legitimate investment for our crew!

learning objectives

I can:

  • Be a responsible, safe online consumer when purchasing high-value technology.
  • Compare the technical specifications, pros, and cons of various media products.
  • Identify digital red flags, fake reviews, and insecure checkout systems.

  • The Gear List: What specific types of equipment will our club need to shop for to shoot videos like this (e.g., camera type, microphone style, stabilizers)?

  • The Priority: If we have a strict budget, what is the number one most critical piece of equipment we must prioritize for this setup, and why? Identify two other “wish list” items as well.
