Before you can hit "record" on your new studio, you have to buy the gear. 

You’ve researched the gear, audited the sellers, and made your official pitch. But before the principal hands over the $1,000 Media Club budget, the district needs absolute proof that you won't accidentally spend their money on counterfeit equipment.

Welcome to the Studio Build: Shop Smarter simulation.

In this final Q1 challenge, you will be thrown into a digital shopping simulator. Your mission is to navigate the storefronts, dodge the drop-shipping scams, and spot the counterfeit traps before you hit the checkout button. 

Let's all aim to get the certificate below.

Certified Smart Consumer Certificate with game score, title, and date. This is an example of what they will get after successfully completing the challenge.

Your Mission Instructions

Read all of the instructions below before launching the activity.

  • When in the activity:
    • Spot the Scams: Use everything you learned in the Media Gear Production Chart to identify the red flags in the simulated online stores.
    • Claim Your Reward: Once you successfully beat the simulation and prove you are a savvy shopper, the system will award you an official Shop Smarter Certificate.
    • Capture the Evidence: Take a screenshot of your certificate. Make sure your name and the completion badge are clearly visible!
  • Update Your T19 Portfolio: Upload the screenshot to your Student Portfolio. This is your official proof to the Faculty Advisor that you are ready to be an authorized buyer for the Media Club.
