Q1 Media Crew: The Startup Pitch
The Real Work Begins
Now that the Media Club has secured its funding, the real work begins! Before the school administration will release the money to buy your gear, you must submit a formal Purchase Proposal defining your club’s production style and the exact equipment package needed to launch it.
The video in the introduction includes just a few ways a media club can create content. Your team needs to decide what direction you want to take and what products you will need to shop for.
Phase 1. Production Style
- Open, copy, and save the Q1 Media Gear Production Chart or the Q1 Startup Pitch Slide Deck.
- You may choose which format your group would like to work in.
- You should create a Thing 19 folder, place your copy in that folder, and share with your team & your teacher.
- Review the four distinct school media reporting styles. Each one allows your club to create a completely different type of content.
Phase 2. The Spec-Check
- In your group, debate which production style your team wants to pitch. Look closely at the technical specifications (specs) for your chosen package to build your argument.
Phase 3: Compare Products and Review
- The total cost of your chosen package against your club's strict $1,000 limit.
Phase 4: Check for Scams and Defend Your Choice
- On your Media Gear Production Chart, write down three specific reasons justifying why your group chose this specific kit over the other two.
- To convince the principal, you must use your technical vocabulary words.
Phase 5: Submit for Approval, The Official Pitch
- Save and share your completed Media Gear Production Chart and your final purchase recommendation with your teacher.
